Graduation is an important milestone in the lives of young people. It celebrates years of study and participation in wider school life and the ceremony itself is important to the students, their families and their teachers. We had planned a grand ceremony to take place in the school gymnasium. Unfortunately, these plans were thwarted by covid. So, we made the decision to move the event outside and onto our basketball court. And guess what happened? In the end, we held an event on zoom, which was better than nothing, but still fell short of our expectations. We were so disappointed.
What could we do?
We held a drive through graduation! After careful checking with local government regulations, we got the go ahead. This needed careful planning. Each graduate had an allotted time. Everyone involved wore masks and used hand sanitizer. Masks could only be removed for a few seconds for photographs. The red carpet was rolled out, dramatic music was ready to be played, a platform was erected, the banner was in position and flowers were arranged. The event was a great success as can be seen in the photographs.
